How does licensing work?

You need a license that corresponds to the firewall type (TZ, NSV, NSA, NSSP). This license allows unlimited reports on the firewall using the registered serial number of the appliance. In Firewall Toolbox, you can add multiple licenses to analyze different firewalls with a single installation. A SonicWall high-availability (HA) cluster requires only one license. You are permitted to install the software on multiple computers.

How is licensing enforced?

During the use of the Data Submission Wizard (TSR/EXP), a quick license check is performed. If no license is present, you will be prompted to add a license code. The license is then validated via the backend (cryptlex.com). Further license checks are performed when uploading the configuration.

(How) can I test the Software?

You can download, install, and test the software from this website. At the end of the “Data Submission Wizard,” you have the option to click “Free Trial” to see if the data upload is successful and to access some (abbreviated) reports. A free trial is only available for one firewall serial number!

The software seems expensive, can you explain why?

While the initial costs may seem high compared to simpler tools, the real value lies in the time saved. Recurring audit reports can be generated in minutes instead of hours – the investment therefore pays for itself quickly. Many users find that the software pays for itself after just a few audits.

Does the Software communicate with or send data to the cloud or other webservers?

The software only communicates externally in the following cases:

  • Minimal information (a short device identifier) is transmitted to Cryptlex for license management.
  • the software contacts Firewall-Toolbox Servers for new versions of the software
  • If you choose to use the MySonicWall API integration, certain information will be exchanged with MySonicWall as part of this integration
Apart from these cases, all your data remains locally on your system. Nothing else is uploaded or shared.
No AI-Based processing takes place!

 

Will there be Updates to Firewall Toobox? Are these subject to a fee?

The software is constantly being developed – bugs are fixed and new features are added. Currently, all updates are free; I’m working on a model for how this will be handled in the future.

What happens to the license if the appliance is replaced due to a defect (RMA)?

The license will be transferred to the new appliance. Proof of RMA is required.

What is the procedure when the device is replaced by a successor product?

The process is not yet defined. Please get in touch if this situation arises – we’ll find a solution!
